Avoid Rogue Rubbish Collectors

Posted on April 9, 2021 in Waste Solutions

Rogue rubbish collectors are a problem throughout the UK. Most rogue rubbish collectors are also responsible for the illegal act of fly tipping. Of course, you certainly don’t want to work with the likes of these, but how do you spot one out?

The practices used by rogue rubbish collectors are almost always illegal. Commonly, rogue rubbish collectors will pose as legit collectors and then fly tip the rubbish that they have collected.

The reason that many do this is purely down to money. When an individual goes to dump their rubbish at a skip they won’t be charged, for residential use a dump is usually free, but for businesses on the other hand there is a charge.

For a clearance company this process can cost anywhere from a few pounds to a few thousand; this is why many rogue rubbish collectors fly tip.

While you may think that this is their issue and not yours, you are could well be mistaken. In the eyes of most councils, an individual’s waste is their own responsibility; this includes ensuring that you are working with a reputable company to get rid of your rubbish.

Councils will go to great lengths to track fly tipped rubbish. If you worked with a rogue rubbish clearance company, and your junk gets traced, it won’t be them in trouble with the law but you.

Of course, no one wants to fly tip, and certainly you do not want to be in trouble with the law.

At Protech Property Solutions we believe in eco-friendly, honest rubbish removal. To ensure that the rogue rubbish clearance companies don’t continue in their heinous ways, we have published this guide to spotting a rogue rubbish clearance company;

  1. Ensure you ask them if they can prove that they possess a waste carrier’s license. These are issued by the environment agency and makes it legal to clear your rubbish. Without this they are breaking the law.
  2. Genuine businesses will have measures in place to protect their employees, staff and their customers. Ask them if they have public liability insurance as all good rubbish removal companies will definitely have one.
  3. The items that possess no value will need to be taken to legal tipping sites; enquire about the dumping of your items about your items; where they intend to take what and so on.
  4. Real rubbish clearance companies have overheads such as fuel, labour and tipping fees. |If the price you have been quoted sounds too cheap then it may well be and that they intend to fly tip your rubbish rather than pay the cost for a legal clearance. Be sure to get quotations from multiple businesses and note any major differences in pricing.
  5. A good online reputation will reflect in the real world; ensure that they have good reviews on social platforms.

If you encounter a rogue rubbish collector then the first thing that you should do is to report it to your local council. Secondly, you should then report your experience in the public domain (such as chat rooms, reviews etc) to ensure that their bad reputation is popularised and people know not to work with them.

If you are looking for a legal, professional and eco-friendly rubbish clearance or skip hire alternative, then look no further than Protech.
